The 'Suzanne' cupboard....

...named in honour of Suzanne Hearts'n'Kisses (check her out on Facebook) who found this lovely cupboard and knew it had my name on it!

I used crackle glaze and lots of clear, dark and then clear again wax to bring out the crackles and grain

and added a French gilt handle that I salvaged off something else and knew would come in handy!

here it is halfway through and here's a detail of the top complete with crackles
(I'm in love with crackle glaze!)

and here it is before I started, looking a bit sad ...

Hope you like it! Let me know

  2. Love that style cupboard so much. It's got great bones as they say and wonderful display opportunities with the shelves. Just the kind of thing I love so much. I'm not crazy about crackle, never have been since it's inception years ago, just a personal preference. I know many people do love the crackle look. I love vintage softer paint looks. What can I say. Otherwise love the cupboard and how you refurbished it. Happy week/weekend.

    1. Thanks so much! You're right about the 'bones', it's the only thing that counts for me and I don't care how bad the condition as long as I can see the potential within. I've fallen in love with crackle all over again as I just love things that look old and historic - I want to make believe that I've rescued them from an old French barn!

  3. HI Kerry
So nice to "meet" you. Thanks for visiting my blog, Altered Artworks. Glad you like my projects. You have beautiful before-and-after pieces. I really like how your transformed this cabinet. It's truly beautiful. I see you live in the UK, whereabout? We took a trip to London last spring, and can't wait to go back and see more of England. Now following you and look forward to seeing more of your work.

  4. Hi! thanks for your kind comments. I live about 30 miles north of London, on the edge of a little country town and close to some lovely countryside. I lived in London in my twenties and, last year, I spent about eight months working on a contract in Queen Anne's Gate (a lovely old Georgian street) in Westminster. Because of the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics, London was a great place to be and I was able to walk through Green Park and St James's Park on my way to the office - I felt very lucky!
